It was our final day in the bush and it was roasting hot. We'd set out on our final game drive with Kux and TT only, as the German couple elected to sleep in (???). It was nice having a private vehicle and Kux was hell-bent on finding the lions that had avoided us the last several days.
Big hippo in the river
Empty vehicle
Kux and TT looking for signs of lions
Wait, what's in that clearing
Not one, but two adult male lions. They'd very recently killed a cape buffalo and were resting near the carcass. Kux said that they'd probably be eating and napping all day.
**VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED***
You can see the claw marks across the neck
Very regal, and covered in blood.
It's surprising difficult to maintain eye contact with an adult male lion
Nap time.
His brother didn't bother to open his eyes
Big paws.
Bye bye!
When we got back to Nxabega, we finished packing and had a nice breakfast. Just like when we arrived, we were sent off with the beautiful voices of the Nxabega staff. While the lodge was certainly the roughest that we stayed at, the hospitality was great.
We took a bush plane back to Maun, and then flew to Jo'Burg. After a short layover, we were off to Cape Town. It was dark by the time we arrived. We were driven to the luxurious Cape Grace on the Victoria & Albert Waterfront. We chose to stay in and have dinner at the restaurant. Over an incredible bottle of wine, Devon enjoyed Kingklip (a type of eel) and Rob had grilled Impala. It was the latest that we'd stayed in up over two weeks and we headed off to bed looking forward to exploring Cape Town in the morning. When we got back to the room, this was waiting for us along with a very kind note from the Cape Grace Manager congratulating us on our honeymoon.
