Xaranna Beauty and Luxury

There were only 6 of us for our bushwalk on our first morning in Xaranna.  The British couple chose to do a mokoro (a local dugout canoe) ride for their final game experience, so it was KD and Elicious, our friends from JoBurg and us.

We found the feather of an owl.

A view of Xaranna from the other side of the river.

African Wild Jasmine

KD pointing out some tracks on the ground.

Herd of zebra in the distance.

The fruit of the sausage tree.  Looks like an overgrown cucumber.

More zebra.

The bush walk at Xaranna was the longest that we'd experienced.  It was almost 3 hours of learning about plants, insects and tracking.  We saw plenty of herd animals from a distance and no predators.  What a great experience!

Back at the lodge we enjoyed breakfast looking out over the river at the pair of hippos that lived across from the camp.

After lunch we decided to try out the plunge pool.  It was cool and refreshing during the warm afternoon

Before our afternoon game drive we noticed a bat resting at the top of the tent in the main lodge.

&Beyond moved rhinos from Phinda to Xaranna.  We were hoping to see them during the afternoon game drive.

Great shot of the hippo nearly out of the water.

We were able to find 3 rhinos.  The calf was actually born in Botswana and they appeared to making a nice new home in Xaranna.  Because of the remoteness of the location and aggressive conservation by the government, these rhinos would almost certainly be safer from poaching.

As the afternoon light was waning, we spied an elephant making his way through the bush. It was a big male.

We took our sundowners next to a bridge.

Back at the lodge, we were treated to a Boma dinner of chicken, lamb and too many sides to count.  After the baked cheesecake for dessert, we were ready to hit the sack, excited that our final game drive in Xaranna would be on a mokoro in the Okavango River Delta.
